The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi-problem situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self direction. In addition to patient care, the RT II educates patients and families, coordinates activities, supports staff development, and pursues professional and self-development activities. The RT II also addresses population-specific needs and supports education of new employees and others. Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Provides Customer Service: completion of patient care, documentation and education; promotes team spirit and a positive work environment; supports students and staff Administers Quality Patient Care: performs patient assessment and therapy assessment; collaborates with health care team; verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen and medical gas therapy; performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform interpretation; airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy care) Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis Educates patients and mentors/new employees, students and peers Location-specific: assists in invasive/non-invasive procedures and cardiac service procedures, pulmonary diagnostic testing Maintains Safe & Quality Environment: promotes accurate electronic orders, charting and charging; emphasizes patient safety and participates in quality improvement initiatives; supports evidence-based practice Performs other duties as assigned and complies with WellStar Health System policies and code of conduct Required Minimum Education
Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science Associate's Degree Bachelor's Degree Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. NBRC-RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist RCP - Respiratory Care Practitioner BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-Instructor ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS-Instructor Additional License(s) And Certification(s)
Additional licenses and certifications may be required per location and role specifics. Required Minimum Experience
0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care Required Minimum Skills
Ability to communicate well, critical thinking skills, establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health care professionals, and computer literacy including familiarity with databases.
