The Veterinary Technician assists veterinarians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients, and assists with surgical procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and provide client education.
Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
Obtain samples, perform in-house lab testing, and prepare specimens for external labs.
Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
Handle and restrain animals during exams.
Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment and lab areas, restock supplies, and maintain equipment.
Demonstrate warmth, courtesy, and professionalism to clients and patients.
Communicate with veterinarians and team members about client discussions, patient plans, concerns, etc.
Perform any other assigned duties.
Requirements/Qualifications
Ability to work weekends as required.
Previous veterinary experience preferred.
Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds; lift over 25 pounds with assistance.
Practice OSHA safety techniques and proper PPE.
Basic math for dosage calculations.
Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office.
Strong communication skills for patient safety.
