Overview
Behavioral Health Specialist - HCBS - Orange/Dutchess County at Abbott House. Job Summary: Based on training, experience and qualifications, the Behavioral Health Specialist may be called upon to provide one or more of the following services to children and families enrolled in the specific services. In no situation shall a Behavioral Health Specialist provide services where he/she does not meet the minimum educational requirements and qualifications necessary to provide such services as documented. Responsibilities
Prevocational Services — Individually designed to prepare a youth (age 14 or older) to engage in paid work, volunteer work or career exploration. Not job-specific, but aimed at facilitating success in any work environment; directed to teaching skills and learning job production requirements; helps develop work habits and acceptable job behaviors. Respite — Short-term assistance or relief for children/youth with disabilities and family/caregivers, planned or crisis-based. Includes supervising the child/youth and engaging them in activities that support health and safety and functional or mental health/health care goals. Planned Respite — Planned short-term relief to enhance family/caregiver ability to support the child/youth’s goals; direct care aligned with the plan of care. Crisis Respite — Short-term care for crisis situations to prevent escalation of symptoms; may involve crisis intervention and referrals from ER, community, LDSS/LGU/SPOA, school, self-referrals, Care Manager referrals, or step-down from inpatient settings. Supported Employment — Ongoing supports to obtain and maintain paid employment in integrated settings, aiming for sustained employment at or above minimum wage in alignment with personal and career goals. Caregiver/Family Advocacy Supports and Services — Enhance the child/youth’s function within the caregiver/family unit and provide techniques and information to better respond to the participant’s needs; support for caregivers and collateral contacts. Community Habilitation — Assistance with self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills for successful functioning. Additional Responsibilities — Oversight of program requirements, documentation for billing, participation in treatment team meetings, incident reporting, compliance with policies and procedures, and knowledge of evidence-based practice and complex trauma. Qualifications
Each service requires different education/experience levels. Examples include: Prevocational Services: AA/AS with 1 year of experience or BA with 1 year of experience. Respite Services: High School Diploma with experience. Supported Employment Services: AA/AS with 1 year of experience or BA/BS with 1 year of experience. Caregiver/Family Advocacy and Support Services: BA with 2 years of experience or MA with 1 year of experience. Community Habilitation: High School Diploma with experience. Hours and Time of Work
