Job Summary Position is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical care by performing technical and clerical duties associated with the operation of the Pharmacy.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
Current Pharmacy Technician registration or Pharmacist Intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required. ACPE I.V. Certification with completion of a 40‑hour I.V. admixture course preferred.
Sterile Products Certification through an accredited program required if the incumbent compounds sterile products.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
1–2 years of hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Principal Accountabilities
Selects prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on the patient medication file or cart‑fill list.
Receives merchandise and places it into inventory.
Monitors assigned areas for out‑of‑stock or out‑of‑date inventory.
Delivers medications to patient care areas.
Inspects and maintains emergency medication trays.
Packages and labels unit‑dose oral liquids/tablets and maintains pre‑pack records.
Collects and loads drugs into an automated drug dispensing system (PYXIS) and maintains inventory for non‑automated patient care areas.
Responds to medication requests from nursing personnel and other departments.
Follows processes to ensure all medications are compliant with technology safety checks.
Prepares sterile products in an accurate and aseptic manner when appropriate.
Attends to customers as a liaison and gathers medication history when applicable.
Properly manages pharmaceutical waste.
Credits patients for returned medications using the computer system and returns medications to inventory.
When under direct supervision of a pharmacist, reviews drug‑drug interactions and confers with physicians on drug selection, dose, dosing interval, allergy, and interactions.
Ensures safe patient care while adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, and supporting department‑based goals that contribute to the organization’s success; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
