A Brief Overview Administers respiratory care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of Physician and by prescription, by performing the following duties.

Education Qualifications

Associate's Degree Graduate of CoARC Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program Required

Skills And Abilities

Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization. (Required proficiency)

Ability to calculate respiratory-related formulas as necessary for patient care. (Required proficiency)

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

Registered Respiratory Therapist - NBRC Must be credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Required

Respiratory Therapist - KSBHA Must be licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts. Required

What you will do

Reviews EMR for physician orders and patient information, to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages.

Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with Physician’s orders. Consults with Physician in event of adverse reactions.

Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, blood gas collection and analysis, and aerosol equipment. Observes equipment function and adjusts to obtain optimum results to therapy. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure appropriate safety and functionality. Reports improper working equipment

Monitors patient’s physiological status and responses to therapy such as vital signs, breath sounds, respiratory rate and pattern, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.

Performs bronchopulmonary hygiene and assists patient in performing breathing exercises.

Performs basic life support measures, and responds to emergent patient situations.

Documents patient care in patient’s EMR. Records accurate patient charges

Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to orientees. Serves as Clinical Instructor for Respiratory students

Maintains all respiratory equipment by performing daily maintenance, calibration, pre-use check out procedures and troubleshooting to ensure, and maintain, a state of readiness

Provide patient and family education on Respiratory disorders, therapies and treatments

Required for All Jobs
