Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.

Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska through one of the following methods:

48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution,

or a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam,

or passing the WorkKeys by ACT assessment,

or passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation among staff, parents, students, and the public.

Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, parents, students, and administrators.

Knowledge of first aid (preferred).

Experience in typing and general clerical work (preferred).

Ability to work with people of all age levels (preferred).

Ability to effectively explain policies, regulations, and procedures (preferred).

Ability to perform basic mathematical operations (preferred).

Essential Job Functions

Prepares class materials as directed by the teacher.

Sets up class projects following teacher guidelines.

Handles routine reports and administrative tasks.

Records grades and checks attendance.

Assists with discipline and supervision during school hours, including lunch and recess.

Supports classroom activities and student supervision.

Types and maintains various educational and administrative documents.

Supports the district’s values of diversity, respect, and confidentiality.

Physical and Mental Demands The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Visual acuity is necessary. The employee must occasionally lift items under 40 lbs, understand implicit instructions, recall facts, handle conflicts, and make decisions under pressure. Managing stress effectively in a diverse, dynamic environment is essential.

Work Environment Work is performed in a professional setting with diverse individuals. Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and moderate noise levels. Visual display equipment may be used regularly.
