Overview
Phlebotomy position with responsibilities in specimen collection, processing, and clerical support in the Core Lab. Responsibilities
Identifies patient, communicates the process to the patient and collects specimens for subsequent lab analysis in accordance with approved techniques and universal precautions. Delivers samples to the appropriate lab and logs samples in the Lab LIS. Ensures specimen integrity during accessioning and processing using established handling, labeling and processing procedures. Maintains daily operation of the front end automation system (MPA) where applicable; loads samples received on the MPA. Prepares specimens for dispatch to reference laboratory or intralaboratory, monitors send-out pending test list/specimen manifest and enters send-out results into the laboratory information system. Processes, stains and coverslips slides where applicable. Prepares control material, performs preventive maintenance (e.g., thermometer calibration), completes maintenance logs and performs instrument quality control. Oversees refrigerator and freezer temperature recording. Performs phlebotomy according to established policy and procedure, using a PDA whenever applicable. Maintains reagent inventory, labels and stores reagents appropriately, dating when received, opened and expired, and stores reagents accordingly. Files specimens, slides and reports for easy retrieval and discards specimens at proper intervals. Answers phones and ensures customer satisfaction. Adds on test requests following established laboratory protocol for Add-On Requests. Restocks supplies in the work area as needed. Communicates well with other staff members to ensure excellent customer service and appropriate follow-up. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Information
Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma and a minimum of one year job-related experience. Required Skills: Strong phlebotomy skills, organizational and customer service skills, and data entry. Criteria Desired: Phlebotomy Certification preferred, not required. Working Conditions
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity Occupational: Some occupational risk Physical Effort: Medium to heavy effort; may exert up to 35 lbs. Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc. Company
