Responsibilities

Receives, cleans, decontaminates and sterilizes reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation and supplies.

Maintain adequate inventory levels for all surgical/house instrumentation/trays and supplies.

Printing, verifying and assembling the Perioperative Surgical schedule daily.

Coordinate Perioperative room instrument and equipment needs utilizing the Perioperative surgical schedule as directed in collaboration with department Supervisor and/or OR leadership team.

Coordinate suitable substitutes for specific instrumentation.

Coordinate room needs based on specific physician needs.

Guide and assist Central Sterile and OR technicians in performing daily activities.

Maintain daily sterilization records.

Inspect, assemble and sterilize all surgical and house instrumentation used throughout WVU Medicine in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.

Restock case carts with supplies, instrumentation and equipment as indicated by surgeon preference cards generated from the daily surgical schedule.

Restock Surgical Services including Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply, specialty carts and top track.

Stage and deliver case carts, stocking carts and equipment via clean cart lift, clean or services elevator as needed.

Inventory and maintain adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies.

Receive returned items, properly recording and returning items to inventory.

Respond to instrument and equipment requests from physicians.

Serve as initial contact for physicians and Perioperative staff to coordinate solutions to instrumentation problems.

In accordance with policy and procedure, report and record missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment.

Serve as initial contact for departmental inquiries from customers.

Assist in the training and development of new employees.

Assist other Central Sterile Instrument Technicians with daily assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Current HSPA or CBSPD certification.

Experience:

Sterile processing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Graduate of a vocational or college Central Sterile processing program.

Experience:

One (1) year of sterile processing experience.

Must meet Department of Labor\'s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).

Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.

Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighing in excess of 200 pounds.

Will be working in PPE for extended period of time.

Skills & Abilities

Use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse.

Answer telephones and transcribe messages.

Communicate verbally, written and electronically with healthcare personnel, families and patients.
