Position Highlights
The Phoenix Children's Research Institute at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Schimmel lab. The Schimmel lab is a translational research lab that focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of vascular diseases affecting the lung and the heart. Current projects seek to identify the molecular basis of arteriovenous malformations using a new genetic mouse line, and tissue and blood samples from human patients with the genetic disease hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. Approaches make use of spatial omics, advanced imaging techniques such as 3D deep tissue staining, microCT, and synchrotron imaging, as well as bioinformatics analyses. The Schimmel lab has ongoing collaborations across multiple disciplines. Eligible for visa sponsorship for J1 only. . Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, design and conduct advanced, multi-disciplinary research involving the use of mouse models, human tissue and blood samples. Apply cutting-edge technologies including spatial multi-omics, microCT and 3D deep tissue imaging. Work collaboratively with team members of the lab, and with scientific investigators within and outside of the University of Arizona. Complete complex research projects at different stages (advanced through nearly completed). Formulate, troubleshoot and optimize research methods and techniques as needed. Independently reproduce, evaluate, research, and improve techniques currently used. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments. Present results at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences. Prepare and revise manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports. Derive, analyze, format and interpret data for publications, presentations, and grant proposals. Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and discoveries and apply learnings to related research. Ensure regulatory compliance of research activities. Participate in mentoring opportunities provided to postdocs locally at the college and across the university to further their career path in academics. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to take on responsibility for complex research projects. Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation. Mouse handling skills. Ability to quickly pick up concepts and technical skills in the lab, to follow scientific protocols, and to troubleshoot. Ability to work effectively and efficiently. Team-player, creative, pro-active, and reliable. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop reports and present in tabular, oral, written, and graphic formats. Proficiency in using computers to automate tasks. Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings. Minimum Qualifications
PhD in life sciences related field is required. Preferred Qualifications
Experience publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with animal research and managing mouse colonies. Experience with fluorescence microscopy and analysis, histology, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology and protein analysis. Experience with spatial omics and/or single cell studies.
