Position Summary The following describes the responsibilities and requirements for the position as presented in the job description.

Responsibilities

Assist and support scientific investigation to study Leishmania disease transmission and vaccine development as directed in the Department of Pathology; independently conduct assigned experiments.

Perform molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis.

Sort and process tissue and blood samples; test and evaluate current procedures; perform routine procedures on lab animals.

Record, consolidate and assist with analysis of research results; assist in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts.

Prepare research progress reports; assist principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature.

Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities; assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.

Set up and operate laboratory equipment; monitor research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor222 b s degree in biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.

Experience in public health with managing/constructing REDCap database is preferred.
