Project Engineer Responsibilities

Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the Independence Construction project team.

Administer and monitor compliance with construction contracts for owners, subcontractors, and vendors.

Coordinate and expedite materials and services for the job site in conjunction with the superintendent.

Schedule and manage meetings throughout each phase of construction and preconstruction.

Assist the PM with the management of project budget, budget revisions, cost projections, and cash‑flow projections; assist with the generation of reports.

Review and coordinate structural, architectural, and MEP drawings throughout the project.

Assist PM in the oversight and management of change‑management processes.

Collect and analyze trade contractor proposals for scope changes.

Review and negotiate cost for scope changes to ensure pricing is accurate and fair.

Log change management to the correct cost codes.

Issue subcontract change orders upon approval by owner and PM.

Responsible for the entire RFI process: initiate, review responses, maintain a log, and distribute to team.

Responsible for the entire submittal process: initiate, review submittals, maintain a log, and distribute upon approvals.

Maintain accurate and current drawing, submittal, and RFI logs.

Coordinate all project meetings with PM and superintendent prior to project start.

Attend owner/architect/CM meetings.

Collect, review, and process subcontractor payment applications as assigned by the PM; assist in compiling owner payment applications.

Assist the superintendent and PM as requested in creating and updating the master schedule.

Work with the team (PM, PX, Superintendent) on the development of the project QA/QC program.

Assist PM and superintendent with close‑out process.

Assist with preliminary punch‑list process.

Coordinate owner‑requested warranty requirements during the warranty period.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2–5 years of related experience.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge of budgeting and expense control.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously, and consistently meet deadlines.

Ability to perform duties independently.

Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications.

Strong attention to detail.
