Field Service Technician , you will assist with on-site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases. This position has direct, face-to-face contact with customers and is expected to be proactive with the sales of TDS services and products. Services include Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and/or high-speed networks. You will perform extraordinary customer service, identify customer needs, and provide communications solutions. You will also demonstrate TDS products and seek sales opportunities while educating the customer. Products and services include Local Service, Central Office Services, Structured Cabling, MAC (Moves, Adds and Changes), Voice Mail, Audio and/or Video Conferencing and Non-regulated CPE. Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the selected candidate must reside within a 60-minute distance from Verona, WI. This position can be hired at Field Service Technician (requisition ID #2025-28108), Field Service Technician - Network (requisition ID #2025-28063), or Field Service Technician - Network Specialist level (requisition ID #2025-28064), depending on skills and qualifications. Assist with and perform on-site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintenance of telephone equipment and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers. Locate defective cable using test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, or customer cables. Locate cable and fiber for customer requests or construction needs. Pole climbing and operating construction equipment may be required. Locate and mark company underground facilities to prevent damage. Maintain an orderly log of locate requests. Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities. Assist with troubleshooting and provide support techniques and corrections. Respond to “trouble” dispatches. Support and maintain record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc.). Provide excellent customer service. Proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers. Gain working knowledge of RUS Standards and grounding practices related to splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment. Qualifications
Required Qualifications Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs. Other Qualifications Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check. On-call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime as needed. Must pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum. Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating > 10,000 lbs. A+ certification and computer networking experience. Understand telecommunication products and services: Inside Wiring/Cable, Internet/Intranet, Bonding & Grounding, Data & Computers/Transmission Concepts, Fiber Optic Transmission, Static Sensitive Equipment, Color Codes, Structured Wiring, Video/CATV/DBS Installation, Inventory Systems, Cable Locating, Battery Maintenance, Key Systems/PBX, Centrex, Switch Maintenance, Voicemail, Special Circuits, Fiber Terminals, Subscriber CXR Terminals, T-1s, ISPs, DSL, ISDN Voice & Data, Testing & Certifying Loops To Support Data, Voice, and/or Video. Proficient with computer applications (e.g., MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated customer service and sales skills and effective communication (verbal and written). Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
