SUMMARY
Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; act as lead worker to other classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required.
Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment: Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage tester.
Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment.
Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools.
Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers.
Replaces faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices, using hand tools.
Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
Perform repairs on aerial components of lighting fixtures that require use of an elevated work platform (bucket truck).
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Two years of work experience as a Journeyman
Must possess a current New Mexico State Journeyman’s Electrician license (EE98J)
Must possess a valid Driver’s License
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a current New Mexico State Journeyman’s Electrician license (EE98J)
Valid New Mexico or Texas Driver License
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and truck more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Ability to properly use and care for job related tools and equipment.
Maintains emotional control under stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly works indoors and will work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
