Department Information This position is open only to Colorado state residents. The recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies.
Division of Facilities Management – Southern District
The Division of Facilities Management exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the CDHS facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards. Facilities served include the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Division of Youth Services (DYS), and the Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the southern district.
Description of Job Primary responsibility to provide technical locksmith and security lock control services to the facilities listed above. Services include designing, upgrading, installing, maintaining and repairing highly complex safety and security door control locking systems and electronic door control systems.
Primary Job Duties
Repair of mortise, cylindrical lock, and door hardware.
Perform general and routine locking system maintenance functions in all Southern District Facilities. Respond to locksmith and door system work requests phoned into the maintenance dispatch desk during normal operating and after hours.
Meet with customers to determine what can and cannot be done within the facility to meet security and code requirements regarding door control changes.
Repair and maintain mortise locks, keys, door closers, and panic hardware, hinges, and strike plates. Repair, maintain, and install locks, keys, and hardware assemblies on medical cabinets, drug cabinets, and interior Millwork.
Calibrate and adjust automatic and hydraulic door actuators, closures, and fire door coordinators in accordance with NFPA and ADA guidelines.
Install, adjust and modify hollow wood, solid wood, and hollow metal and reinforced metal doors as required.
Determine door and door hardware requirements per code and regulatory requirements.
Adjust door hinges to allow doors to close properly, adjust door closers to conform to ADA requirements.
General repairs of key cutting machines to include adjustment and calibration of machines to cut correctly.
Ensure work is performed to a high standard of excellence, with proper PPE and in a journeyman-like professional manner.
Repair of Electronic Locking Systems
Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install all security electronic locking systems and equipment in compliance with manufacturer recommendations, local codes, and health department, Joint Commission, and ACA standards.
Meet with customers to determine what can and cannot be done within the facility to meet security and code requirements for new construction, modifications, and during equipment breakdowns.
Program and troubleshoot proximity and smart card locking systems.
Repair and maintain specialized security locking systems which include electronic locking solenoids, door position switches, security door alarms and related locking electronic hardware.
Ensure work is performed to a high standard of excellence and in a journeyman-like professional manner.
Staff Training
Train staff on uses and operations of manual and electronic locking systems.
Equipment evaluation and specification of conventional and electronic equipment used for safety and security of customers.
Evaluate keying requests for compatibility in key hierarchy.
Perform data input into Best Keystone software as required to maintain lock system accuracy for all DHS facilities.
Coordinate and train locking schemes with all customers.
Other Duties As Assigned
Perform other duties as assigned.
Drive State vehicles between sites as required.
Perform snow removal.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have one year of experience locksmithing that included working with mortise locks, cylindrical locks, pinning/cutting keys and electric locks. Detailed experience should be provided in the Work Experience section of the application.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with mortise, BEST systems.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic locks.
Experience working in a secured environment (prison, jail, mental health settings, etc.).
Experience with door preparation to include hanging and door adjustment.
Experience with anti-ligature locks.
Experience working with BEST-Keystone lock software.
Certification as a Locksmith.

Must submit and pass a full background check.
Must be Colorado resident at time of application and throughout employment.
Must possess and maintain certification as a Locksmith within 9 months of hire.
Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado driver’s license.
Travel required to drive State vehicles between sites.
Must be willing to receive annual influenza vaccination or provide exemption documentation.
Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis test.
Must be available for call back to perform essential/emergency services without delay.
May be required to work various hours for weather-related issues and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.
Exposure to hazardous materials: proximity to moving parts, toxic chemicals, electrical shock, working in high exposed places.
