Occupational Therapist (OT)

– The Manor At Blue Water Bay Position Overview Provides quality rehabilitation care in Occupational Therapy to residents as outlined in the plan of care in accordance with laws, regulations and facility guidelines.

Basic Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program (BS or MS-Occupational Therapy).

Must possess the ability to read, write and speak the English language.

Communicate resident condition to others and make independent decisions as needed.

Have common working knowledge of all rules, laws and regulations related to occupational therapy.

Be patient, friendly, courteous and respectful to residents in any situation.

Be able to implement occupational therapy programs, goals and objectives needed in the rehabilitation department.

Can move frequently throughout the workday and handle sensitive situations with patience, dignity and respect.

Must be able to lift 40 lbs from floor to waist/waist to shoulder, lift and carry 40 lbs, and push/pull 40 lbs.

Experience

Current OT license in good standing for the state of practice.

NCBOC certified.

One year experience in a health care setting; long‑term care experience preferred.

Working Conditions Works in the rehabilitation department and resident rooms. Bends, lifts, sits, stands and moves frequently. Handles frequent interruptions and possibly upset residents and family members. Works regular scheduled shifts with possible weekends, holidays and other hours based on resident needs. Primary responsibility is care of residents but also interacts with visitors, government personnel, etc. Participates in required continuing education programs. Job may involve exposure to odors, falls, burns, infectious diseases, waste, including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Safety Awareness: Follows safety program guidelines, reports accidents, identifies unsafe areas, promotes safety, keeps rooms clean, follows infection control, identifies hazardous conditions, understands emergency and evacuation protocols.

Organizational and Communication Skills: Handles multiple residents simultaneously, completes assignments organized, records information accurately, effective verbal and nonverbal communication, attentive listener.

Customer Service: Treats all residents, families, coworkers and supervisors with dignity and respect, exceeds customer expectations, represents facility professionally, demonstrates positive attitude and willingness to help, remains sensitive to needs.

Essential Job Duties

Assesses functional levels and capabilities of residents.

Conducts ongoing assessments of resident needs and makes recommendations related to resident therapy treatments.

Provides occupational therapy treatments by following the resident plan of care.

Develops goals for activities of daily living that are measurable and realistic, based on resident’s care plan.

Participates in the discharge planning process for residents.

Thoroughly documents treatment progress in resident charts accurately and timely.

Maintains a positive working relationship with residents and families.

Documents appropriately and timely in accordance with laws, regulations and facility guidelines.

Performs overall supervision to OTAs and rehabilitation aides to ensure quality rehab care services are provided.

Completes required company forms and documents to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Other Job Duties

Attends and participates in meetings, conferences and seminars.

Provides in‑service education to facility staff as it relates to rehab services.

Assists with transporting residents from room to therapy gym, etc.

Provides training and education to family, residents and staff for occupational therapy.

Schedules appointments, takes calls, reorders supplies and completes insurance forms.

Attends meetings and communicates information in a productive fashion.
