Overview
Line Technician Apprentice – assist with inspection and repairs of transmission lines and substation sites under the direct supervision of a journey or higher-level Line Technician.

Responsibilities
Assist with field inspections of transmission lines to identify sagging or damaged lines on 69kV, 115kV, 138kV, 230kV, and 345kV lines; inspect insulators; assess poles, cross arms, and related equipment for hazards.
Assist with maintenance, repair, or replacement of overhead transmission hot line equipment and associated components; support safe conditions for authorized staff.
Assist with framing poles, installing pole top assemblies, and air break switch assemblies.
Operate required heavy equipment safely under direct supervision.
Assist with climbing transmission structures, setting and aligning poles, stringing and sagging conductors, digging pole holes, installing anchors, and rigging as needed.
Assist with emergency work to restore service in adverse weather and respond to emergencies after hours as needed.
Assist with field inspections of substations to identify unsafe or unstable equipment and facilities needing attention.
Assist with installation and removal of breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, CTs, capacitor banks, and other substation components; assist with bus fitting and grounding of HV equipment.
Support safety practices and the use of appropriate safety gear; identify and communicate hazards; report injuries and near misses; follow clearance procedures.
Qualifications
Certifications and Licenses
– Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Manual Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of employment.
Education and Experience
– High school diploma. Completion of a recognized Line Technician Program is highly preferred. Experience in electric distribution lines, transmission lines, or substations is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
– Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST) test; ability to read line construction drawings; basic math and units of measure; understanding of Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO) and proper use of PPE; understand testing for voltage and grounding practices.
