City of DeFuniak Springs . The City of DeFuniak Springs is an Equal Opportunity, E-Verify and Drug Free Workplace Employer. This position is responsible for performing repair work and maintenance for cars, trucks, equipment, and other motor vehicles in the Citys fleet. Responsibilities

Maintains vehicles, which may include the Citys fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles, including lawn mowers. Performs routine and preventative maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups. Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function. Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment. Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist. Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts. Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance. Visits job sites to inspect vehicles. Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation. Disassembles defective equipment, such as gasoline pumps, air compressors, and dynamometers. Replaces defective parts, using pipe fitting and welding tools. Reassembles, adjusts, and tests repaired equipment. Takes daily master fuel readings and fuel depth readings at tanks. Takes end of month fuel readings. Keeps track of oil and filter reorders. Completes repair work orders on every job. Assists with cleaning and maintaining the city shop. Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements. Adheres to all safety rules and regulations. Performs other duties as directed and required. Must create a positive public image as a representative of the city. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skilled in mechanical repair. Skilled in utilizing computer diagnostic equipment and software. Skilled in analytical and problem-solving skills. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with City staff, officials, other government and private agency officials, and the general public. Skilled in dealing with customers and able to handle stressful situations. Skilled in managing multiple projects and deadlines. Skilled in organization, including attention to detail. Ability to read service and repair manuals. Ability to demonstrate initiative and creativity in coordinating tasks and projects. Ability to collect and analyze information, to interpret policies and other materials, and to assist in the development of workable solutions. Ability to demonstrate flexibility and cooperative attitude when faced with change. Ability to be flexible and change job priorities at a moments notice. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with staff, City Officials, and the public. Ability to work harmoniously with a diversity of individuals both inside and outside the city offices. Ability to make sound professional judgment based on department needs and cost effectiveness.
