Overview
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine-to-skilled maintenance duties in the operation, alteration and corrective maintenance of building facilities, equipment, and utility systems. Performs scheduled and unscheduled mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related duties with priority given to patient comfort and safety. Requires sound judgment and rapid decision-making during system failures to avoid injury to persons or damage to equipment.
Location: Coldwater Regional Hospital
Responsibilities
Under supervision, performs services in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, medical gas systems, furniture, fixtures, structures, steam, water, waste, HVAC, electronic, alarms, data processing, emergency, and communications equipment or systems. Under limited supervision, performs project services and tasks involving general labor such as installation and demolition as outlined.
Performs snow removal, lawn services and other grounds maintenance tasks. May be required to perform security services.
Repairs or replaces plumbing components (flush valves, PVC pipe fittings, plugs, traps, faucets, valves). Operates drain cleaning equipment.
Troubleshoots problems, orders parts, and performs repairs.
Installs and repairs drywall in metal-stud applications.
Repairs or replaces ductwork.
Disassembles, troubleshoots, and repairs or adjusts mechanical equipment per manufacturer service literature.
Repairs or replaces components in systems such as Nurse Call, Dictation, and various appliances.
Contacts manufacturers for technical assistance and places orders for service/repair.
Interfaces with Utility Management System; inputs data for new equipment; writes, schedules, and generates PMs and equipment history reports.
Reads, interprets technical instructions and basic mathematical computations. Operates hand and/or power tools.
Reads and interprets schematics.
Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits and related systems and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments; repairs or replaces electrical components such as receptacles, switches, lights, and ballasts.
Gathers data, reports, and makes recommendations for remedial action on systems as needed.
Inspects and performs safety tests on systems and equipment; inspects refrigeration, cooling, air conditioning and related systems to ensure proper function.
Monitors and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations; reports safety or fire hazards or security violations.
Conducts scheduled rounds of Plant Systems, documents and makes adjustments to maintain proper temperature, pressure, etc.; notifies appropriate personnel when needed.
Operates a variety of equipment including hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware.
Attends mandatory trainings and passes associated tests; uses computerized work order systems. On-call hours may be required as needed.
Required Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent; trade school diploma or degree from technical school.
Skills:
Working knowledge of electricity, fire safety codes, refrigeration, and air conditioning codes.
Experience:
1-2 years in similar positions in an institutional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
License:
Licensed/Certified in one or more trades or disciplines.
Working Conditions
Personal Protective Equipment:
Eye and face protection, respirator with medical clearance.
Physical Demands:
Work at heights, ladders/scaffolding; potential exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards. Ability to move, lift or carry up to 10 lbs up to 55% of the time; up to 20 lbs up to 10% of the time. Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, prolonged standing/walking. Possible exposure to confined spaces and low voltages. Must perform Lockout/Tagout procedures and respond to emergencies as required.
