Responsibilities The majority of this job is overseeing WIC Outreach and Breastfeeding services and the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program throughout Hillsborough County. The position represents the Women, Infant and Children Program at meetings, plans all WIC Outreach activities, and develops community partnerships. A valid and current Florida License to practice dietetics is required. As a supervisor the incumbent trains, motivates, evaluates and monitors the daily work activities of senior public health nutritionists, nutrition educators, and consultants; consults with health care practitioners to determine nutritional needs and diet prescriptions of WIC clients; develops and implements nutrition care plans; prepares outreach materials; reports to federal and state auditors; coordinates with the Public Health Nutrition Consultant on annual nutrition program reports; reviews and approves menus; attends health and community meetings, committees, and staff meetings; oversees outreach, breastfeeding, health fair, and community activities; mentors professional staff; provides nutrition services and promotes wellness; completes WIC certifications and counseling; and provides breastfeeding education and support to WIC clients.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Effective verbal and written communication and telephone etiquette skills.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal WIC Program policies and procedures.

Knowledge of current science and practice of food, nutrition and dietetics; normal nutrition principles and dietary needs throughout the life cycle.

Ability to assess appropriate and effective feeding for women, infants and children.

Effectively counsel using the VENA techniques.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Nutrition charting techniques using the designated format.

Ability to use office equipment (computer, digital scale, stature board, Hemocue machine, copier, telephone, etc).

Computer skills: thorough knowledge, skills and ability to use Excel, Word, Outlook, FL‑WiSE.

Excellent customer service skills; maintains client confidentiality and effective working relationships.

Ability to lift and transfer all supplies required to perform job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree or master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition per WIC Federal Regulation, CFR, Title 7, Part 246.

Incumbent must meet Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics per Chapter 64B8‑40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code.

Valid State of Florida License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist issued by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of supervisory experience.

WIC program experience a plus.
