Field Service Technician - Generator Division
Generator Service Technicians perform both shop and field repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diesel and gas generators, including automatic transfer switches, batteries, and load banks.
Essential Job Functions
Perform mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting tasks on generators.
Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs during normal hours, after-hours, weekends, and holidays as directed.
Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs.
Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, and work orders.
Conduct basic mathematical calculations.
Use hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
Report faulty operations or defective material to the service manager promptly.
Maintain safe workplace, clean shop areas, and company vehicles.
Drive company vehicle to job sites; overnight travel may be required.
Additional Job Functions
Use welding tools, winches, pulleys, hoists, and pallet jacks as needed.
Tow a trailer, portable generator, or load bank using the company vehicle.
Required Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of power generation systems and components, including mechanical operation and hazards.
Proficient with generator and transfer switch controls.
Strong mechanical and electrical competence.
Interpret schematics and operational manuals for repair and maintenance tasks.
Ability to perform basic mathematics.
Adhere to preventative safety measures, including NFPA 70E equipment.
Skilled in using mechanical tools for generator repair and maintenance.
Work effectively in non‑climate‑controlled environments with wet, humid, and extreme heat conditions.
Capable of prolonged standing, sitting while driving, and repetitive movements such as bending, pushing, and lifting.
Lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. during the work day.
Minimum Job Qualifications
High School or equivalent (GED).
5 to 7 years of related work experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s record in good standing; comply with company policy.
