Overview
SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Medical Imaging, or designee, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, performs a variety of functions to assist in daily operation of the Diagnostic Imaging Division. This includes transportation of patients requiring radiographic procedures, preparing patients for examination, maintaining room readiness, cleanliness and stock. A Radiology Tech Assistant works directly with Imaging Technologist to facilitate and help assure high-quality imaging services to patients, make recommendations that will improve operational efficiencies and exercises critical thinking within understanding of formal training, to prioritize workload and patient management situations. All essential functions reflect the age-specific needs of the adult, adolescent and geriatric patient; adapting to their physical, psychological and cultural needs. Radiology Tech Assistants receive training in the MRI Department, learn MRI Safety guidelines and policy. Responsibilities
Transports patients to and from imaging modality.
Adheres to safety guidelines for each imaging modality including MRI, CT, X-Ray and Nuclear Medicine.
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance; maintains cleanliness of imaging rooms, changing rooms and imaging equipment.
Maintains stock levels of supplies, performs daily inventory, and stores supplies in proper areas with attention to expiration dates.
Orders supplies as needed; anticipates equipment and supply utilization to maintain sufficient inventory PAR levels.
Receives materials, unpacks supplies, checks contents for damage, and notifies manager about unusable items.
Stocks room with laundry and supplies; may pick up and deliver supplies and materials for the department.
Performs simple record keeping; may interact with vendors and hospital accounting regarding orders, deliveries, or payments.
Prepares contrast material as needed within the scope of formal training and written procedures.
Provides radiology transport services; secures transport equipment and prepares patient for imaging procedures, including dressing, lifting, and positioning.
Assists with patient preparation for procedures and during transfer to imaging tables; uses patient transfer devices as needed.
Observes radiation safety rules; assists Radiographer and/or Radiologist during procedures.
Positions kits or trays to facilitate procedures; remains in the room during fluoroscopy and minor interventional procedures to provide supplies.
Assists with packaging specimens for labs and ensures proper patient labeling.
Demonstrates competency in inserting, monitoring and removing IV catheters under infection control standards.
Monitors patients and reports adverse reactions or unusual behaviors to the Technologist immediately.
Performs other related duties including data entry, clerical support, and training of new staff; maintains required hospital training and certifications.
Supports department during downtime and maintains quality assurance, safety, infection control, and patient privacy policies.
Minimum Qualifications Basic Knowledge : High School diploma or equivalency required. Ability to read, write and verbally communicate effectively in English; basic arithmetic. Knowledge of Radiation Safety and ALARA. Understanding of aging, development and cultural considerations in patient care.
Preferably completed a Tech Assistant training program; prior experience as a Tech Assistant/Tech Aide; clinical background or enrollment in a healthcare program.
Basic Life Support and IV Certification required within 6 months of hire.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements Regular exposure to patients; potential exposure to contagious disease. Standing, walking, lifting, carrying and equipment handling; manual dexterity to operate equipment. Independent action within department policies; seek guidance for complex issues.
Compensation and Employment Details Pay Range : $18.66 - $30.77
