Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Under the supervision of a clinical nurse manager, provide nursing care to patients, conducting systematic, continuous and comprehensive assessments from admission to discharge across the care continuum; address age, gender, spiritual, cultural, physical, psychosocial and patient preferences; proactively use safety surveillance to prevent adverse outcomes. Independently administer medications per licensure authority, assess effects, document administration timely, and adhere to patient safety guidelines for all aspects of medication administration. In collaboration with patient and family, plan care using current scientific knowledge, theory, and care standards; create individualized, age-specific plans and incorporate data from the multidisciplinary care team to ensure continuity and patient teaching. Identify and prioritize patient problems based on assessment data, safety considerations, goals and preferences, and nursing interventions and the medical plan of care. Implement nursing care interventions to meet patient and family-centered health needs; demonstrate competent skills and clinical judgment to promote patient safety and achieve outcomes. Assess and evaluate outcomes of patient and family teaching from admission to discharge; tailor teaching to age, learning needs, and cultural background. Evaluate care through regular reviews of patient/family responses; revise the plan of care with the care team to promote outcomes and prevent adverse events. Advocate for the patient and family; prepare for discharge and obtain feedback to promote satisfaction. Collaborate with unlicensed assistive personnel with appropriate monitoring and delegation to ensure safe care delivery.

Shift Requirements

Shift Length: 12 hours Shifts per Week: 3 Overtime: Infrequently

Additional Functions

Demonstrates professional conduct and accountability for actions and outcomes. Orients new team members and may supervise students. May act as relief charge nurse when needed. Maintains professional competency through continuing education and licensure activities. Participates in evidence-based practice activities and stays up-to-date with compliance and accreditation standards. Communicates constructively within the healthcare team and resolves conflicts appropriately. Performs duties cost-effectively while maintaining quality of care. Maintains compliance with all policies, procedures and HIPAA requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is required All new-hire Associate Degree RNs are required to start an approved BSN program within one year and complete within three years (required) Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is preferred

Experience

All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required) Two years of hospital patient care experience is preferred

Licensure

Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)

Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (required) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (may be required for specific clinical areas) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (may be required for specific clinical areas) Note: additional, specialized certifications may be required or preferred based on unit
