Job Summary:
The Transload and Spotter Technician is responsible for spotting rail cars and trailers for inbound and outbound shipments. The role includes processing and unloading inbound railcars, loading outbound sugar or oil trailers via transload, and performing inventory management practices. The technician verifies and records material handling transactions while following all safety and quality procedures and operating equipment such as spotter truck, forklift, and railcar mover. Flexibility and a positive team attitude are essential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Operate the railcar mover to stage full or empty rail cars for unloading or pick‑up.
• Unload oil/sugar railcars and maintain a consistent flow of ingredients to both RC Plant and Watertown facilities.
• Drive spotter semi‑tractor, spot box trucks, oil tankers, sugar wagons, and bulk outbound loads for RC Plant, RC Transload, and RC Cartage facilities.
• Unload bulk sugar and oil trucks.
• Verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Move ingredients and finished materials using the electronic inventory management system to achieve proper first‑expired, first‑out (FEFO) and product rotation procedures.
• Load and unload inbound and outbound trailers and tankers, completing inspection forms and HACCP requirements.
• Receive, inspect, sample, tag, and route all incoming materials.
• Pick, pack, load, and prepare orders for shipping.
• Complete paperwork and log information accurately (BOLs, inbound/outbound orders, ProFormas, etc.).
• Interact with railroad company, truck drivers, customers, and other CQC departments.
• Perform cleaning activities as needed and provide superior customer service.
• Cover for other employees during breaks, lunch, and absences.
• Operate forklift, railcar mover, spotter semi‑tractor, and other material handling equipment; drive personal vehicle for work when approved.
• Follow all company safety and quality policies and procedures and maintain regular attendance and willingness to work overtime as needed.
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum one year of industrial warehouse experience, including forklift operation, WMS proficiency, and shipping/receiving experience. Experience operating a railcar mover and spotter truck is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record; CDL Class A preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Lift 55 pounds on a continual basis.
Stand and walk for the entire shift.
Speak, write, and read in English.
Basic math skills.
Work at heights above 10 feet and in extreme heat and cold.
Handle allergens such as soy, milk, etc.
Positive, can‑do attitude and flexibility to perform a variety of tasks.
Multi‑tasking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong range of motion.
Stamina to safely perform in a fast‑paced environment.
Remain alert to safety hazards and stay on task.
Manage time effectively and work independently and in a team.
