Andalusia Health Overview Certified Nurse Midwife position focusing on obstetric and gynecologic care, prenatal and postnatal education, and assisting during labor and delivery. The role includes patient instruction, collaboration with obstetricians/gynecologists, and ongoing patient support. Responsibilities

Takes part in initial examination of patient, monitors course of pregnancy, advises on proper health practices, conducts tests as appropriate, and reports complications to obstetricians/gynecologists Prepares patients and fathers for delivery; trains mothers-to-be in exercise, breathing, and relaxation techniques Provides instruction in breastfeeding, if desired Attends and reassures patient through labor, monitors fetal condition, administers medications, and notifies physician of prolonged labor or complications indicating need for possible surgical intervention Delivers infant and checks mother and child to ensure normal condition During postpartum period, visits mother and child to provide further instruction in feeding and newborn care Conducts classes for patients and family members on pregnancy, delivery, and proper child care Conducts classes for nursing students to assist new mothers as part of their training Provides advice on family planning and performs gynecological services Functional Demands

Minimum Education

Registered nurse and successful completion of a post-graduate medical school program for nurse-midwives Required Licenses

Alabama, United States: Midwife, Certified Nurse; Current Certified Nurse-Midwife license to practice in the state of Alabama Required Skills
