Scope of Work:
The Speech-Language Pathologist is an independent healthcare professional who provides individualized patient care, assessing and treating speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in children and adults based on physician referral. The role involves evaluating referred patients, establishing patient and family-centered goals, and developing and executing treatment plans to promote or maximize independence in the discharged setting. The staff speech-language pathologist also participates in performance improvement and educational opportunities that promote growth and development within the department and profession.
Standard Qualifications

A. Education / Training:
Master’s Degree, Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA), or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), ASHA.
B. Work Experience:
Experience in adult/children neurological speech and language disorders, evaluation and treatment, including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, laryngectomy, stuttering, and voice disorders.
Experience with head and neck cancer, tracheostomies, cognition, TBI, dementia, and modified barium swallow studies.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
Certificate of Clinical Competence, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (required), or
Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Licensure in Speech Pathology in Michigan (required), or temporary license during the CFY (required).
