National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
Period of Performance:
Time of Award up to five (5) years.
Type of Employment:
Full-time 40 hours per week.
Estimated Pay : $17.53 - $22.62 per hour.
Pay Holidays:
Eleven (11) Paid Holidays.
Paid Time Off:
80 hours, occurring on day one.
Sick Leave:
56 hours, occurring on day one.
Working Hours
The Phlebotomist will normally work Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The Pharmacy Technician will not work more than 40 hours a week. The Health Services Administrator will determine the actual hours of work. Due to the nature of the correctional setting, delays in work performance may occur. Such delays may include, but are not limited to, inclement weather, electrical or mechanical problems, or other security matters.
Summary of Duties
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures with precision, professionalism, and adherence to established protocols. This includes specimen identification, labeling, and handling to support diagnostic testing and patient care. The Phlebotomist interacts directly with patients, providing compassionate service while maintaining infection control standards and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
Be a graduate from an accredited school or program for Phlebotomy approved by the State of Florida.
Must hold a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Healthcareer Association, and/or any other national organization.
Must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging, and shipment to referral laboratories, with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records.
A minimum of two (2) years of Phlebotomy Technician experience.
Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).
Two (2) letters of reference.
Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.
Copies of all certifications and resumes must be forwarded with your application.
Attire
The contractors are expected to wear professional clothing while on duty. The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employees will be performing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collect blood and urine samples and prepare and track all laboratory samples.
Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring patients' vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection, and processing within the Health Service Unit, including A&O in-processing, DNA processing per procedure, vaccine programs, and PPD updates.
Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Laboratory guidelines and document the process per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
Ensure that lab requests are completed accurately and that all reports are returned from the contract lab.
Notify the provider, update the log as received, follow up appropriately, and file or scan the results in the lab and medical record.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
Complete and scan into BEMR the Medical Treatment Refusal forms for any Adults in Custody (AIC) who wish to refuse laboratory testing ordered by clinical staff.
