The Dietitian (Clinical) position is located in the Clinical Section of Nutrition and Food Services (N&FS) within the VA Augusta Health Care System. The Dietitian coordinates inpatient and outpatient nutritional care for Veterans with other health care providers - the Veteran - the Veteran's caregiver - and the community. They interpret research and utilize whole health principles to develop patient-centered goals and improve outcomes. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Registration: All applicants must hold the RDN credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Note: Applicants who hold the RDN credential have met the education requirement (e.g., bachelor\'s degree or higher) of CDR Exception for Dietitians who do not possess the RDN credential (GS-07 and GS-09): non-credentialed Dietitians may be given a temporary full-time appointment not to exceed one year under 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2) with conditions described below Non-credentialed Dietitians must have fulfilled each of the following: earned a bachelor\'s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university; completed an ACEND® accredited experiential or supervised practice program and provide a verification statement; ACEND® accredited programs list available on ACEND® website Foreign Education: degrees earned outside the U.S. must be evaluated by ACEND® and meet its standards; non-credentialed Dietitians may be appointed at GS-07 or GS-09 and must obtain RDN credential to be promoted Non-credentialed Dietitians must work under supervision of an RDN at or above the full performance level Temporary appointments for non-credentialed Dietitians will not be extended beyond one year English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English Professional levels and grade determinations: GS-09 or GS-11 depending on experience and education Dietitian (Clinical) - GS-09: Experience or education as specified in the standards; KSAs include knowledge of accreditation, virtual technology, NCP-based care, evidence-based practice, patient-centered goals, data collection for performance improvement, and stakeholder collaboration Dietitian (Clinical) - GS-11: Experience as an RDN; KSAs include patient care using NCP, applying evidence-based nutrition, developing patient-centered goals, analyzing data for performance improvement, collaborating with stakeholders, and compliance with accrediting/regulatory requirements Reference: VA Qualification Standards VA Handbook 5005/154 - Part II Appendix G20 Full performance level: GS-11; actual selected range: GS-9 to GS-11 Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 Duties

Conducts comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutritional Care Process (NCP), including nutrition-focused physical examinations, to establish a nutrition diagnosis and determine risk and/or degree of malnutrition Develops and implements Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to address the nutrition diagnosis; evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of MNT interventions Modifies the plan as needed to achieve positive patient outcomes Calculates nutrient requirements and necessary diet restrictions or food and drug interactions, tailoring the diet prescription to each individual patient Documents MNT in the medical record using the ADIME format Functions independently and accurately in record keeping Identifies patients in need of nutritional support and recommends the appropriate mode of support; communicates with the health care team Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition education/counseling tailored to Veterans Utilizes virtual care technology to improve access to care Maintains productivity standards Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm or 8:00am–4:30pm; Telework not available; Virtual: Not a virtual position Functional Statement #: 99530-S and 99529-S; Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized; PCS: Not Authorized Seniority level
