SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Manager of Health Information Services, supervises the activities of clerical staff for one or more assigned areas of the department (i.e., correspondence, record completion, transcription services, EAD). Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to assigned clerical activities, including process improvements. Responsibilities

Interview, select, orient, train, and assign work to clerical staff.

Evaluate performance and recommend corrective action as appropriate.

Assess quality assurance reviews of work in progress.

Provide guidance to staff regarding work processes and resolve work‑related issues.

Ensure staff is apprised of changes in confidentiality laws and related regulations affecting medical information.

Participate in developing policies and procedures related to clerical activities and quality improvement initiatives.

Maintain medical record filing system, coordinate chart aging and backlog management, and prepare productivity and volume statistical reports.

Coordinate the provision of transcription services through outside services, ensuring adherence to contract provisions and quality standards.

Supervise staff in the assembly of medical records, ensuring adherence to record order standards and timeliness.

Qualifications

At least two years progressively more responsible related experience, including demonstrated supervisory and management skills.

Working knowledge of State and Federal confidentiality laws related to medical information, Joint Commission standards and familiarity with computerized systems.

For an assignment that includes transcription services, at least one‑year experience in medical transcription.

Supervisory responsibility for up to 40 FTEs.

Location: Rhode Island Hospital – 593 Eddy Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02903

Schedule: Sunday–Tuesday 3:30 pm–12:00 am; Evening shift; 8 hours daily; Driving not required.
