Overview

This Cytogenetics licensed Medical Technologist will perform specialized testing in the area of Cytogenetics in a CAP accredited laboratory. This remote PRN position will assist with chromosomal and FISH analysis, and their interpretation. The clinical assessment of human genetic disease in this laboratory involves the use of the most current and approved cytogenetic testing methodologies (e.g., karyotyping, FISH, and microarray testing) to address a variety of clinical needs (e.g., cancer, congenital, and prenatal assessments). Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated and for which the laboratory is licensed under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor\'s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological; OR Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training (refer to 42CFR493.1489(b) for details on required courses and training). Licensed as a Cytogenetic Technologist for which the laboratory is licensed under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes Two years of appropriate clinical Cytogenetics experience. Good communication and writing skills; effective people skills and problem solving. Familiarity with state, federal, and accrediting agencies rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to clinical laboratory testing. Effective computer skills, various laboratory equipment knowledge, and data management skills. Other requirements of the position:

Identifying color and seeing difference in color and grayscale, including shades and brightness, is essential. Technologist Responsibilities

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and array comparative genome hybridization (aCGH): analyze results using fluorescent signals or probes. Work includes sitting or standing for long periods with attention to detail. On-site Visit (If Remote Tech Visits On Site)

Wet bench work requires precision and careful attention to detail. Manual dexterity for proper instrument use and precision with instruments such as fluorescence microscopes, laminar-flow hoods, incubators, centrifuges, computer imaging systems, cell-sorting instrumentation, and automated slide preparation.
