Location and Hours Lowell General Hospital – 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA

Full-time Hours: 36 hours overnights (7pm-7:30am)

Weekend shift rotation required (approx. every 3rd weekend Sat & Sun)

Job Overview This position is responsible for respiratory care for patients of all age groups, who are diagnosed with cardio‑pulmonary dysfunction. Sets up various types of equipment to administer prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosolized drugs. Administers all types of respiratory therapy treatments including oxygen delivery, mechanical ventilator management, diagnostic procedures (e.g., blood gas sampling and analysis, pulse oximetry), and BCLS. Works cooperatively within the department and other services to create a quality health care system.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree from an accredited Respiratory Care program.

Licensed by the state of Massachusetts to provide respiratory care.

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

One (1) year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

ACLS & NRP Certification required within one (1) year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Respiratory Care program.

Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Duties And Responsibilities

Initiate patients on invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation; routinely check and maintain proper function of ventilator in conjunction with the physician order.

Abide with infection control guideline for invasive and non-invasive equipment per departmental policy.

Wean patients from mechanical ventilation and other therapies through patient assessment and adjusting parameters within prescribed protocols.

Administer inhaled medications in accordance with institutional guidelines derived from the department of respiratory care and pharmacy.

Administer oxygen using low flow, high flow, open and closed circuits.

Embodies patient and family centered care, explaining procedures to patients and family.

Administer Positive Pressure Breathing (e.g., CPAP or BiPAP).

Provide in-house transport of mechanically ventilated and other high-risk patients.

Provide non-traditional therapies (e.g., Veletri administration) as ordered.

Provide resuscitation and support services at all high-risk deliveries.

Monitor effectiveness of therapy using non-invasive techniques such as pulse oximetry, end tidal CO₂ in addition to invasive techniques such as arterial blood gas sampling.

Assist in Code Team CPR and airway management.

Document therapy, patient assessment, and interventions performed in the progress notes.

Transcribe a detailed shift note for all patients cared for during the shift.

Perform daily rounds, billing, and attend rounds with the ICU critical care team.

Assist with development of in‑service programs for departmental personnel.

Assist clinical educator with orientation of new employees.

Pay Range $37.18 – $47.41
