NVA General Practice . An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand daily operations and gain practical clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common traits: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners. Students will work closely with supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All DVM students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. DVM students in the clinical phase may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE for stipend details.
