Ironworker Position Summary

Structural Welding

Perform Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) on structural steel in accordance with AWS D1.1 and D1.8 seismic provisions.

Weld moment connections, beam-to-column joints, continuity plates, stiffeners, and other seismic-critical welds.

Execute complete joint penetration (CJP) and partial joint penetration (PJP) groove welds in all positions (1G–6G).

Code Compliance

Follow AWS D1.8 seismic supplement requirements, including prequalified procedures, quality standards, and inspection readiness.

Adhere to all project-specific Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

Maintain certification records and welder continuity logs per AWS standards.

Steel Erection Support

Assist in fitting and aligning beams, columns, and connections before welding.

Install and tack weld temporary bracing and connection hardware.

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.

Safety & Quality

Use proper preheat, interpass temperature control, and post-weld cooling methods to prevent cracking in seismic welds.

Perform grinding, gouging, and weld repair as needed in compliance with seismic acceptance criteria.
