Overview

Mechanical Engineer - Pipe Stress at Black & Veatch. Role on the Mechanical Piping Team focusing on piping stress analysis to ensure conformance with ASME B31 Pressure Piping Codes and related standards, client, and jurisdictional requirements. Opportunity to lead design execution and mentor junior engineers. Responsibilities

Perform, verify, and direct others to perform detailed stress analysis of metallic and nonmetallic piping for conditions such as elevated temperature, cryogenic service, loads on sensitive equipment (steam turbines, pumps, compressors/expanders, air-cooled heat exchangers), pulsating service, flow-induced vibration, and transient loads. Coordinate work between domestic and international offices; assign tasks and coordinate with internal/external team members on complex projects. Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate work details. Prepare pipe support purchase specifications and administer pipe support purchase orders with domestic and international suppliers. Prepare pipe support designs satisfying all code and project requirements. Engage with clients to understand interests and drivers and apply this understanding to project work. Travel to job sites for walkdowns and hanger inspections for existing and new-build facilities. Team and Role Context

The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team delivering high-quality design and services across Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water and Waste Water, Data Centers, and Mining projects. The Mechanical Piping design team specializes in piping design and stress analysis, with a focus on complex design challenges and code compliance. U.S.-based group includes professionals located in Raleigh, NC and the world headquarters in Overland Park, KS. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records) as applicable by law. Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years’ experience relevant to pipe stress analysis and piping design. Technical depth in ASME B31.1 and B31.3, and related piping design principles and standards. Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, II, III, and VIII. Working knowledge of AutoPIPE and Caesar II. Knowledge of API, ASTM, and AWWA standards; awareness of other disciplines and constructability, procurement and contract administration. Ability to interpret engineering deliverables. Certifications

Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred, or in active pursuit of licensure. Work Environment and Schedule

Office environment with potential site visits requiring physical tasks (crouching, grasping, standing/walking). Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and work assignments. Salary and Benefits
