Sr. Switchgear Design Engineer Job Overview Fast growing Electrical Circuit company is seeking a skilled and motivated Switchgear Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing oversight of LV/MV switchgear systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications. This role requires technical expertise, strong project management skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable power distribution solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Development: Lead the design and engineering of MV switchgear systems, including vacuum circuit breakers, busbars, protective relays, and gas‑insulated switchgear, adhering to IEEE C37.20.2, UL, and EUSERC standards; maintain and refine existing product designs.

Manufacturing Oversight: Collaborate with production teams to oversee the manufacturing process, ensuring efficient assembly, testing, and quality control of switchgear components.

Testing and Compliance: Develop and implement testing protocols, including arc resistance and short‑circuit testing, to ensure product safety and regulatory compliance.

Project Management: Manage end‑to‑end project lifecycles, from concept design to factory acceptance testing, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, procurement, and quality assurance teams to align engineering solutions with customer requirements and market demands.

Safety and Innovation: Champion safety‑first design principles and incorporate innovative technologies to enhance switchgear performance and reliability.

Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and compliance records, to support manufacturing and regulatory processes.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize production processes, reduce costs, and improve product quality through engineering solutions and process enhancements.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in MV switchgear design, manufacturing, or testing; strong understanding of power distribution systems; familiarity with manufacturers such as Eaton, SQRD, LS, GE/ABB, Powell.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in MV switchgear components and systems, including circuit breakers, switches, and protective relays; knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, UL, EUSERC) and testing protocols (arc resistance, short‑circuit); experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for electrical design.

Leadership:

Proven ability to lead engineering projects and collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Problem‑Solving:

Strong analytical skills with a focus on innovative and practical solutions for complex technical challenges.

Communication:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder engagement.

Certifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant certifications (e.g., IEEE membership) preferred.

Preferred Skills

Experience with gas‑insulated switchgear (GIS), service & commissioning, and smart grid technologies.

Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.

Knowledge of emerging trends in power distribution and renewable energy integration, microgrids.
