Job Description Certerra seeks a staff level Civil Engineer (2‑4 years’ experience) in our Las Vegas office. The successful candidate shall have an ABET accredited engineering degree in civil or geology or engineering or similar and shall have previous experience working in a geotechnical engineering and materials testing and inspection environment. We are a Reno, Nevada based geotechnical consulting firm, which is a division of Certerra Geosciences, with offices across the U.S. We provide geotechnical and construction inspection services throughout Nevada and Northeastern California.

Responsibilities

Perform geotechnical field investigations, testing and construction oversight.

Perform field exploration and in‑situ testing including boring layout and utility clearance, coordination with drilling and excavation contractors, supervision of drill rig and test pit excavations, logging of borings and test pits, identification of soil and rock materials, and performing infiltration and percolation testing.

Perform geotechnical engineering analysis with supervision including soil and rock classification, slope stability analysis, retaining wall design, shallow and deep foundation design, settlement calculations, ground improvement, liquefaction analyses, seismic and geologic hazard evaluation, and earthquake engineering.

Assist with review and compilation of geotechnical laboratory and field‑testing results, perform geotechnical analyses and report writing.

Provide inspection and construction oversight of grading, earthwork, retaining structures and foundation construction.

Prepare bids and estimates for geotechnical investigations.

Perform geophysical investigations such as refraction Microtremor and seismic refraction, soil resistivity (Wenner Array).

Oversee and train junior geologists and engineers.

Attend professional development courses and participate in local groups which further your engineering knowledge with the intention of achieving/maintaining a professional engineering (PE) license.

Requirements

2–4 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, materials testing and inspection.

ABET‑accredited engineering degree in civil, geology or related discipline.

Prior experience in geotechnical field investigations and laboratory testing.

Licensed or EI in Nevada and/or California, or intent to obtain a professional engineering license.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Benefits and Compensation This salaried full‑time position offers medical and retirement benefits after a waiting period. Salary range depends on experience and credentials and is between $70 000 and $90 000 per year.

Work Conditions The role requires field work, travel and occasional overnight stays. The work environment is approximately 50% office and 50% field work in all types of weather.
