Overview As a Pile Driver, the position provides direct project support for Russell Marine LLC. The role involves assisting with assembly and disassembly of cranes and/or barges and carrying out tasks required during marine and upland pile‑driving activities.

Responsibilities

Assist in unloading and assembling cranes or other hoisting equipment for pile driving activities, including fueling, lubricating, and maintaining the pile driving hammer.

Unload and assemble pile driving hammer and leads in addition to various types of piling – concrete, pipe, H‑piling, timber, and steel sheet piling.

Perform site preparation for installation of concrete and wood structures; prepare the piling to be driven and assist in positioning and driving the piling.

Assist and work with the Crane Operator to maneuver and position loads safely.

Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life, including oxygen/acetylene welding torch, pneumatic power tools, and gasoline chain saw.

Dress and cap the pilings after driving and preparing them to receive the superstructure.

Assist during pile driving operations including fabrication and installation of pile template and falsework, lofting and tripping of the pile, engagement of pile hammer onto the pile, pile advancement during pile driving, and disassembly of falsework and templates.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be eligible to obtain one upon hire.

At least two years of experience in pile driving and/or crane rigging/operations on land and barges.

General knowledge of pile hammer functions, construction rigging, use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi‑part load blocks; ability to work at elevated heights; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

OSHA Rigger & Signalman training and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) certification.

500+ hours operating dedicated pile with SMAW/stick welding experience.

Knowledge of marine or railroad construction terminology; ability to use various cutting methods and weld in 3G, 4G, or 6G positions.

Working Conditions

Requires reasonable workplace accommodations as needed.

Must wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel‑toed shoes, personal flotation devices, etc.

Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must handle temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dust, moisture, or vibration.

May work long hours and/or weekends; out‑of‑town or overnight travel may be required.

Must move between locations on site, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.

May need to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for extended periods.

May work in confined spaces or climb vertical ladders of 6 ft. or greater.

May lift objects weighing 10–50 lbs. per lift; frequent lifting may be required.
