Field Service Technician - Network Specialist , you will have overall responsibility for maintaining a highly reliable network of systems including the central office switch, carrier and transmission equipment, fiber electronics, business communication systems, and/or all other auxiliary equipment. This position is responsible for installation and maintenance of network infrastructure and circuits, as well as digital switch devices and cross connects. This position participates on project teams and may lead projects. You will install, maintain, and repair telecommunications products that TDS sells and leases and work with switching equipment including carrier, DSAs, remotes and related transmission equipment as well as complex PBX systems. Services include Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and/or high-speed networks. Responsibilities

Installs, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains telephone equipment and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber facilities, and/or other TDS products for new and existing customers. Handles PBX, Key Systems, Centrex Systems, business systems, fiber terminals, POTS, ISDN, DSL, T-1s, and/or DS3s. Locates defective cable and handles bury/aerial installations. Performs cable fault checks and cable location tasks; may climb poles and operate construction equipment. Maintains accurate locate requests and performs cable tests. Installs and maintains central office equipment including switch software, backups, voicemail, and related terminals; provides functional support and answers questions about features. Provides advanced troubleshooting and responds to trouble dispatches. Supports and maintains record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc). Delivers excellent customer service, educates customers on TDS products, and identifies sales opportunities while demonstrating products. Performs project management for the installation of systems and performs related duties as requested by the supervisor. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

2+ years technical telecommunications experience OR current/prior military service with honorable discharge. 1+ year of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training. Valid driver's license. Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs. Other Qualifications

Upon hire, must complete customer-specific requirements (which may include a background check). On-call/standby availability and occasional travel; willing to work overtime as needed. Pass Safety Course requirements; maintain DOT requirements for operating certain vehicles (>10,000 lbs GVRW). Knowledge of telecommunication products and services, structured wiring, data networks, VOICE/Video, and related technologies. Proficient with computer applications (databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, MS Office). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong customer service and sales skills; effective verbal and written communication; strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Physical ability to operate heavy equipment (bucket truck, backhoe, etc.), dig, lift up to 50-100 lbs, and climb as needed. May require travel and various shifts. Must be able to operate manual transmission vehicles. Physical Demands and Work Environment

Regularly requires sitting, standing, typing, and operating a computer. Frequent movement and reaching; climbing, bending, and heavy lifting up to 100 lbs may be required. Outdoor work in varying weather and exposure to mechanical parts and heavy equipment. Benefits
