Senior Engineer - Plant Civil and Structural Engineering
This role focuses on advanced structural analysis for nuclear power plant safety-related structures. The Senior Civil Engineer will model and perform seismic and non-seismic finite element analyses using ANSYS APDL, ensure compliance with codes and regulations, mentor junior staff, and deliver high-quality, on-time engineering documentation.
Responsibilities
Provide system design deliverables: system design specifications and structural analysis and calculations.
Perform Soil-Structure-Interaction (SSI) analysis of nuclear power plant safety-related structures.
Design and analyze nuclear plant safety structures in accordance with ASME B&PV Section III Division 2, AISC N690, and ACI 349 codes.
Conduct static and dynamic analysis of complex containment structures using ANSYS APDL.
Analyze thermal stresses and resolve overstress conditions in reactor containment.
Define hydrodynamic input loads for dynamic response calculations of containment structures.
Assess effects of missile, aircraft impact, and severe wind on reinforced concrete structures.
Prepare engineering reports and licensing documentation.
Interface with customers, suppliers, partners, NRC and regulatory authorities on technical issues.
Develop drawings and specifications to meet engineering and quality requirements.
Lead design analyses and verifications for BWR structural systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Minimum 8 years experience in an energy or nuclear environment.
Minimum 4 years experience with ANSYS APDL.
Minimum 3 years experience with nuclear plant BOP/TI design or operation.
Strong knowledge of industry codes, finite element and seismic analysis.
Excellent communication skills and commitment to safety and quality.
Eligibility & Location Preferred site: GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy Headquarters, Wilmington, NC. Remote eligibility for qualified U.S. candidates. U.S. export control requirements apply.
