Job Goal

The General Maintenance Specialist is responsible for providing maintenance services as needed, assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available at the job site when needed. Position Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. One year of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Duties And Responsibilities

Perform minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment (major repairs performed under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers). Perform preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis, inspect belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, grease bearings, seal, etc., and repair or replace broken parts. Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals. Calibrate and repair pneumatic systems. Replace broken windows; repair doors, door locks, and closets; install window blinds. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures. May operate a computer that controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems. Install electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; replace and repair wiring as needed. Repair electrical equipment and control circuits; replace faulty electrical switches; repair refrigeration equipment. May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security. May install computer cable. Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required. Assist with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repair plaster and drywall; paint building structures. Maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures. Perform outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required. May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts, and order parts as needed. Actively participate in the full implementation of the DOVE model for School Improvement. Perform other job-related duties as required. Skills And Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral forms, with all levels of management—internal and external to the district. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district. Ability to organize special programs for the assigned campus. Ability to use computers, including software, databases used by the district, spreadsheets, word processing software, calculators, copy machines, and telephones. Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills. Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Light Work: may require occasional light lifting. Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required. Position is in the school setting and requires prolonged work at a desk in one location, walking, and standing. Moderate travel is required.
