An experienced machinist able to support production through the use of manual equipment and independently solve problems. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metal-working dies, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, and machine hand tools. Depending on Ruger campus location, toolmakers may create precision molds to support manufacturing using vertical milling centers, EDM centers, precision grinders, and 3-D printers. Qualifications And Skills
Proficiency in the operation of manual mills, lathes and grinders. Proficiency in geometry, trigonometry, basic algebra, fractions and decimals. Ability to select and use appropriate cutting tools. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to create work-holding fixtures and gauges for manufacturing and assembly. Experience with basic machining principles including tooling types, speeds & feeds, threading, surface finish, and tool holding (e.g., collets, chucks). Familiarity with CAD software. Ability to use micrometers, calipers, test indicators, and Cadillac gauge. Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics in fixtures. Depending on Ruger campus location, working knowledge of heat treatment and materials. Ability to use Prototrak/advanced conversational controllers to program mills, MasterCam, or CAM software. Self-motivated to work independently or with associates on the line to find solutions. Detail- and quality-oriented. Ability to communicate detailed information accurately. Ability to prioritize and manage time while working under pressure with minimal supervision. Physical Demands
Associates are frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The position may involve sitting, walking and lifting up to 40 pounds several times daily. Job is performed standing all day and requires movement such as walking, bending, lifting, grasping and applying pressure with fingers and palms. Requirements
