A Pipefitter at Master Boat Builders will configure, install, fit, and maintain various piping systems, and ensure smooth operation of those systems. Description
A Pipefitter at Master Boat Builders will configure, install, fit, and maintain various piping systems, and ensure smooth operation of those systems.
Duties/Responsibilities
Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains piping and plumbing systems composed of various materials; systems may include pipes, pressure and vacuum gauges, pipeline filters, steam traps, and strainer valves. Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications. Gathers equipment and materials for the job. Welds, cuts, bends, threads, solders, and fits pipes. Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering. Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems. Complies with safety regulations and codes. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read schematics and blueprints. Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education And Experience
Successful apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field is preferred. At least 3 years of on the job experience pipe fitting preferably in a shipyard.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods standing and stretching to install and repair pipes and pipe fittings. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Must possess visual acuity required to inspect piping systems and read plans or blueprints.
