Maintenance Mechanic – South Haven Site
Grace, a leading global supplier of catalysts, engineered materials, and fine chemicals, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for its South Haven, MI site. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is a day position.
Compensation:
Hourly wage $23.33 – $29.44, Band Grade 8. Eligibility for an annual performance‑based bonus and other benefits.

Responsibilities
Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to sounds to locate causes of trouble.
Detect malfunction by listening for unusual sounds and discuss machine operation with supervisors, chemical operators, or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or perform repairs.
Provide input for equipment history, testing frequencies, record observed data, write reports, and maintain records using the computerized maintenance management database.
Plan sequences of operations and methods when making repairs, replacements, mechanical alterations, and overhauls following engineering best practices and manufacturer specifications.
Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments; install special functional and structural parts.
Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment, start devices to test performance, and inspect used parts for dimensional changes.
Dismantle defective machines and equipment, repair or replace defective parts.
Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
Install and repair electrical apparatus, including transformers, wiring, and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
Manage hazardous waste in compliance with regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Actively participate on the Emergency Response Team for the site.
Required Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Required Qualifications And Experience
One to three years’ experience in a manufacturing plant.
Proficiency with mechanical hand tools (micrometers, calipers) and electrical testing instruments (voltage testers, megohmmeters, ampere/ohm meters).
Ability to read and understand blueprints or P&ID’s.
Physical Requirements
Work in high hazard environments with adverse weather, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders up to 100 ft.
Wearing PPE (hard hat, protective eyewear, steel‑toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full‑face respirator).
