Job Summary Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Diesel Technician II to support future growth of the Company. The Shop Diesel Technician II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned.
Duties
Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
Determine parts required for each job and collaborate with the Shop Parts Department.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in daily cleanup.
Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform tasks.
Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs and provide assistance or resolve issues.
Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and keep sensitive information confidential.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles.
Travel to customer locations as occasionally required.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company device and/or Karmak application.
Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair time expectations.
Communicate with Shop Manager and support team to obtain repair estimates and purchase orders.
Work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Attend required safety training.
Maintain assigned service trucks and conduct daily pre/post trip inspections.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (e.g., electrical, brakes, cooling, starters, alternators, fans, clutches, engine electronics).
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges).
Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or higher qualification).
Valid driver’s license; maintain Driver Qualification File.
Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one within 72 hours of hire.
Proficient with hand tools needed for job duties.
Complete company training required.
Skills & Abilities
Apply logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
Lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
Communicate clearly and concisely.
Choose appropriate tools and equipment.
Assess distances accurately.
Certifications Required: ASE T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Preferred: ASE T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, 608/609.
