General Maintenance Worker Salvation Army ARC, Chicago, IL

Base pay range: $24.66/hr - $27.40/hr

Responsibilities

Assist the Property Department in completing work orders promptly.

Aid in moving furniture, boxes, and other equipment.

Maintain campus grounds: mowing, weeding, litter removal, clippings, trimming, watering plants.

Keep sidewalks, stairs, parking lots, and drives clear of snow and ice buildup.

Perform regular and preventative maintenance of motorized equipment (vehicles, riding mowers, lawn equipment).

Perform minor repairs on malfunctioning equipment, doors, windows, lights, etc.

Maintain all buildings, equipment, grounds, and vehicles associated with the College for Officer's Training.

Assist in the regular servicing of HVAC, filter changes, and other preventive maintenance.

Conduct preventive maintenance walk-throughs of campus mechanical areas.

Respond to emergency needs and weekend snow plowing as part of a rotating on-call schedule.

Perform plumbing repairs: installing toilets, cabinets, faucets, drainpipes, water pumps, motors.

Maintain campus vehicles: oil changes, repair, vacuuming, washing.

Perform sewer power rodding.

Install and repair appliances as needed.

Perform drywall hanging, sanding, patching, and painting.

Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

Clean after service companies complete projects.

Maintain compactor and compactor rooms clear.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

1–3 years of experience in facility maintenance.

Ability to speak, write, and understand English for effective communication.

Illinois Class B driver’s license.

Clear background check.

Maintain confidentiality.

Self‑motivated, able to work independently with attention to detail.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Physical Requirements Regularly lifting, pulling, and pushing materials up to 80 pounds. May stand for extended periods, work on ladders, bend, squat, and walk. Travel locally with a CFOT vehicle.
