As a Metallic Materials Engineer at Mercury Marine, you will support the maintenance and improvement of metallic parts and processes for current products and new introductions.

Position Overview The role focuses on providing engineering support for materials characterization, testing, design guidance, production qualification, and sourcing initiatives across aluminum, steel, brass, and bronze alloys.

Essential Functions

Provide materials characterization for engineering inquiries of metallic components.

Consult with stakeholders to determine testing scope, urgency, and the most cost‑effective approach.

Offer expert guidance to design, manufacturing, sourcing, quality and purchasing through analysis of process samples.

Perform production qualification work for externally sourced components.

Support sourcing initiatives such as qualification of new vendors, processes and materials.

Recommend new product material and processing for aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, brass and bronze alloys.

Lead technical data collection and risk/reward analysis for new materials and processes.

Record results, conclusions, and recommendations in clear, concise, and timely reports.

Present results to cross‑functional internal stakeholders and external supply chain representatives as needed.

Operate, calibrate and perform basic maintenance of all materials laboratory equipment, including destructive and non‑destructive methods.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.

1 year of experience or prior internship/co‑op in a materials laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of metallurgical testing methods and procedures.

Strong working knowledge of metallic material selection, fabrication processes, manufacturing sequences, quality systems, and technical drawing interpretation.

Compensation The anticipated pay range for this position is $72,000 - $115,300 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, business needs, and geographic location.
