Position Summary
Central Connecticut State University (Central) seeks a Skilled Maintainer to work in the Facilities Management Department in New Britain, CT. The role is full‑time (37.5 hrs per week) and scheduled 1st shift, 8:00 am‑4:00 pm, Tuesday‑Saturday.
Position Highlights
Full‑Time, 37.5 hours per week
1st Shift 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday
Work in campus infrastructure maintenance and heavy‑equipment operation
Responsibilities
Respond to service requests and maintain campus infrastructure.
Operate, maintain, and repair trucks, complex motorized equipment, and heavy landscaping machinery.
Assist qualified craft workers and oversee supervisory landscaping functions.
Follow written and oral instructions, maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Know methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of a specific trade.
Understand maintenance problems and appropriate solutions.
Operate manual and machine tools for the trade area.
Communicate orally and in writing; use computer software.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
Two (2) years of experience in one of the following: one of the skilled trades; landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening; operation of motor trucks or large buses.
Substitutions Allowed
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance‑trade area may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with heavy equipment (backhoes, loaders).
Experience with snow removal.
Commercial landscaping experience.
Special Requirements and Physical Conditions
Must possess any required licenses, permits or certifications.
Requires adequate physical strength and stamina to lift moderate to heavy weights.
Exposure to dust, heat, noise, extreme weather, and risk of injury from equipment.
May be required to use protective equipment, e.g., respirators, safety goggles.
