Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist - Computed Tomography
Base Pay Range
$78,829.00 per year – $102,474.00 per year
Summary Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) This specialized modality requires specific knowledge of cross‑sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral and/or multi‑slice computer tomography – inclusive of 3‑D reconstruction scans. Qualifications
United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Completion of a full‑time 24‑month diagnostic radiologic technology program (or equivalent), evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or an approved agency.
Credentialing Standards: Must meet 42 CFR Part 75 standards for accreditation and credentialing.
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT). Advanced ARRT certification is required for CT assignments.
English Language Proficiency: Proficient spoken and written English per 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) – 7407(d).
Experience: At least one year of GS‑9 level experience directly related to the position.
Core Competencies: Ability to balance patient needs with complex scans, gather information from medical records, assess contraindications, provide first aid and life support, perform aseptic techniques, and provide pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
Technical KSAs: Knowledge of radiation protection standards, advanced imaging software, basic physics, and patient positioning for complex imaging.
Preferred Experience: Prior CT experience.
Physical Requirements: Invite to pre‑employment medical evaluation as part of the hiring process.
Duties
Operate CT scanner autonomously, prioritize scheduled and emergency patients to optimize scanner times while maintaining flexibility.
Verify patient identity, explain procedures and hazards, and monitor vital signs for adverse reactions.
Assess patients for contraindications (e.g., reduced eGFR, contrast allergies); complete patient assessment forms.
Retrieve clinical records and coordinate with radiologists to determine appropriate protocols for non‑standard exams.
Set technical parameters (positioning, number of slices, thickness) to meet CT scan requirements and perform reconstructions as needed.
Administer contrast agents and maintain competency in IV catheter insertion and injection techniques.
Operate general x‑ray, fluoroscopy, and portable units under radiologist direction, and assist with fluoroscopic examinations.
Transfer images via PACS and maintain image quality and diagnostic adequacy.
Maintain quality assessment and assist radiologists and supervisors in ensuring high‑level radiographic interpretation.
