Position Overview We’re seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with extensive New York City project experience, including direct interaction with NYCDEP, DOB, DOT, and other city agencies. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on complex urban infrastructure challenges and takes pride in delivering accurate, code-compliant designs.
You’ll be responsible for managing DEP site connection and stormwater filings (SCP, HCP, MS4, etc.), site grading and utility design, and ensuring that all work meets applicable city and state standards. Experience with DEP MS4 SWPPP and DEC SWPPP processes is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and file DEP Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), MS4 reports, House Connection Proposals (HCP), and Site Connection Proposals (SCP)
Coordinate directly with NYCDEP and other city agencies to obtain project approvals and permits
Design and draft civil site plans, including grading, drainage, and utility layouts
Perform hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, runoff analyses, and erosion control designs
Oversee and review civil engineering deliverables for residential, commercial, and municipal projects
Collaborate closely with surveyors, architects, and project managers to ensure smooth, coordinated project execution
Stay up to date on NYCDEP, NYCDOT, and DOB codes and filing procedures
Participate in client meetings and provide technical support throughout the design process
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
5+ years of civil engineering experience focused on NYC-based projects
Strong understanding of DEP, DOB, and MS4 filing processes
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and related design tools
Working knowledge of NYCDEP drainage design criteria and stormwater regulations
Excellent communication, coordination, and organization skills
EIT required; P.E. license in NY preferred (or actively working toward licensure)
Proven ability to manage multiple active projects in a fast-paced environment
