The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a skilled individual to perform journey-level refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation tasks in accordance with standard trade practices. Key responsibilities include installing refrigeration components, diagnosing operating malfunctions, and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The successful candidate will also test, charge, repair, and adjust hermetic type refrigeration units and ice machines, as well as maintain tools and equipment. The ideal candidate will have completion of a heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) mechanic apprenticeship program, or six years of experience in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of commercial and domestic heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems. A valid California Class C Driver License is required, and a California Class A or B Driver License may be required. An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Universal Technician Certificate is also necessary. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques.
