Position Overview
We are seeking a
Mechanical Design Engineer with sheet-metal enclosure experience
to design and document fabrications such as generator and sound-attenuated enclosures, switchgear, VFD, PLC, MCC, and general electrical enclosures, as well as structural skids, frames, platforms, and weldments. This role owns projects from 3D model → flat pattern → programming → release to ERP, and works closely with production and project management to ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and delivered on time.
Responsibilities
Create 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings in
SolidWorks (Sheet Metal + Weldments)
Generate
flat patterns
and
program parts for lasers and press brakes
(experience or willingness to train immediately)
Produce clear fabrication drawings, BOMs, hardware callouts, bend notes, and weld details
Enter BOMs, routings, part data, and revisions into the
ERP system
for manufacturing release
Apply DFM principles to ensure designs are practical, repeatable, and cost-efficient
Collaborate with welders, programmers, project managers, and leadership on requirements and revisions
Support fabrication, welding, assembly, and problem-solving on the shop floor as needed
Work overtime when required to meet deadlines, support production, or complete project deliverables
Required Qualifications
3+ years in mechanical design, with a focus on
sheet-metal enclosures or structural weldments
Strong SolidWorks skills (sheet metal and weldments experience
required )
Understanding of fabrication processes:
laser cutting, bending, welding, hardware, and assembly
Ability to program or learn programming for
laser and press-brake equipment
Experience with
ERP systems : BOM entry, routings, part structure, revisions, etc.
Strong mechanical aptitude and DFM mindset
Preferred Experience
SolidWorks
PDM
(files, revisions, workflows)
Metal fabrication environment exposure (preferred but not strictly required)
Familiarity with PEM hardware, gasketing, ventilation, sound attenuation, and enclosure cooling solutions
Soft Skills / Culture Fit
Organized, detail-driven, and accountable
Strong communicator with a collaborative mindset
Willing to work overtime, stay late, or do what it takes when projects demand it
Proactive, resourceful, and solutions-oriented—not a “minimum effort” engineer
